SSBx has partnered with MIT to bring a FabLab (Fabrication Laboratory) to the South Bronx. FabLab is an international project started at MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms , aiming to bring “digital fabrication”, the modern means of production, to ordinary people for solving community problems. Ideas are conceived and designed in the digital world, and can be realized in the physical world through the FabLab tools.
GreenFab is a collaborative effort of Vision Education and Media, Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx), New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), and The Bronx Guild High School.
This three-year program, funded by the National Science Foundation, consists of a series of after school semester length classes that will guide participating students through a variety of technology and engineering skill sets that include computer programming, electronics prototyping, and desktop manufacturing.
